Birth Without Fear

Birthing the boys, and being in control… As readers of the blog will know, I spent a lot of time when I was pregnant working on resetting the fears that remained after my first birth – an experience that felt out of control from the moment it started, and that felt as if decisions were…

Here come the boys…

And so, our little twins arrived last week. Welcome to the family, Felix and Monty… What a week or so it has been. Our boys arrived on 19 August, after a great labour and birth where we felt in control, calm and happy throughout. Felix – 6lbs – was born first, a good strong cry,…

Finding Inner Calm

I’ve been working really hard this pregnancy on finding the inner peace and calm that is so important to help you relax into birth as much as possible. I didn’t realise it was important to practise meditation and breathing, or even to practise finding a calm space – I thought it just happened when it…

My Twin Essentials

Pregnancy must-haves for mummies of multiples, from soothing aches and pains to being in-the-know…. Read Up I read a lot of books when I was pregnant with one baby. But I’ve read a lot less now I’m pregnant with two babies….. However, the ones I have read, I’ve  found to be really invaluable. Second time around you…

Resetting Longheld Fears…

Hypnobirthing with The Bump to Baby Chapter… My first birth was not something I especially want to repeat. Except for the obvious upside of having Munchkin, it was an event filled with fear, disappointment, anger. Having planned to have a home, or at least midwife-led, birth, I ended up not going spontaneously into labour, and, three…

Sweet, sweet denial…

A few lovely people in my life are expecting their first babies this year… It’s such an incredible time of your life and remembering all those excited, uncertain moment before Munchkin was born feels very bittersweet. Much of what you’ll use in the end depends really on your baby, and what works for them. That said, there are some little newborn luxuries and essentials…

Bump Beauty…

Five lovely things for stretchy skin and tired minds…. When you’re pregnant, not only is there plenty you can’t eat, drink, wear, do etc etc – but there’s also plenty of relaxing things you can’t enjoy either – hot bath with soothing essential oils anyone? Nope, that’s off the list. Sauna? Nope that’s off the…

On International Day of the Midwife …

As is so often the case with births, our story of how Munchkin was born did not, in any way resemble, the plans we had for her arrival. But what I have had to take away from our ‘birth story’, is not what did or didn’t happen, but simply the extraordinary and exemplary care I…

Welcome to the world…

Our darling little Munchkin finally arrived on 24 June at 1:52am, after almost three weeks of overdue waiting. A little girl – quite a surprise – she weighed 6lbs 15ozs and is, as far as we’re concerned, perfect in every way.

Life in limbo…

Waiting for baby Johnson we took a little walk about the town, up the stunning Cecily Hill where the beautiful Cirencester Parish Church is visible from the top of the hill…

Nesting in the nursery…

Shortly after we moved in, it was made patently aware to us, (mostly by our well-meaning and infinitely wise mothers), that we were in no way, shape or form ready for this baby…. “I mean….do you actually have any nappies…?” “Blankets…you’ll need lots of blankets…” “And have you put the car seat up yet…?”
